Will they ask for insurance?

Sometimes, yes. Insurance is not stamped like a visa, but officers have the right to request proof of medical cover and do so selectively — more often for longer stays, work or media entries. Showing a certificate from a licensed insurer ends the question in seconds; not having one can mean delays or refusal of entry.

Open crossings by country

• Poland — the busiest direction: nine road crossings, all open around the clock, including Medyka–Shehyni (with a pedestrian lane), Korczowa–Krakivets, Hrebenne–Rava-Ruska and Dorohusk–Yahodyn. • Hungary — six road crossings, all into Zakarpattia. Záhony–Chop, Beregsurány–Luzhanka and Tiszabecs–Vylok are open around the clock; two smaller crossings work only in daytime and take no buses. Russia and Belarus crossings are closed.

A PDF on your phone is accepted at every crossing — the policy is signed with a qualified electronic signature and can be verified independently. Carry a printed copy as a fallback: checkpoints are exactly where batteries die and roaming drops.
